Special Grand Jury Indicts Three Former Sheriff’s Deputies in Death of Rolin Hill
Virginia Beach, VA – Colin D. Stolle, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the city of Virginia Beach, announced that a Special Grand Jury returned indictments today against three (3) former Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office deputies relating to the in-custody death of Rolin Hill in June 2024. These individuals are:
- Eric G. Baptiste, age 39, of Virginia Beach -- Second Degree Murder; Assault and Battery (5 counts)
- Michael C. Kidd, age 39, of Chesapeake -- Second Degree Murder; Assault and Battery (2 counts)
- Kevin B. Wilson, age 34, of Virginia Beach -- Second Degree Murder
The Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office has been thoroughly investigating this matter alongside the Virginia State Police. Commonwealth’s Attorney Stolle requested that a Special Grand Jury, which has subpoena power, be impaneled to ensure that this incident received a complete and thorough investigation. Over the course of several weeks, the Special Grand Jury met on three (3) separate occasions and heard evidence pertaining to the events of June 4, 2024, involving Mr. Hill’s arrest and booking into the Virginia Beach Correctional Center. At the conclusion of their meeting today, the Special Grand Jury returned the aforementioned indictments.
As with any criminal prosecution, the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is prohibited from commenting on the facts and evidence of a pending case and cannot comment further on the Special Grand Jury proceedings or the actions of those charged in Hill’s death.
“My most heartfelt sympathies are with the Hill family as they mourn the tragic loss of Rolin,” Stolle said. “I continue to ask for the public’s patience as this case moves through the court process. As in all cases involving the tragic loss of life, my office is committed to seeking justice for Rolin Hill.”
