Our Internship Program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to use their acquired knowledge in a specific field of study. Tasks may include working on projects, assisting with day-to-day operations, as well as attending meetings. Our interns often have the opportunity to go on on-site visits and meet with various stakeholders to learn how the City serves our citizens and tourists.

To be considered for our internship opportunities, you must be a currently enrolled student and be in good academic standing as determined by the school, college, or university. The length of the internship can vary. Students may get paid for their internship depending on the program.

Our internship program offers students a hands-on transition from the classroom to a professional setting. Interns gain experience in event logistics, volunteer projects, nature camps, and fast-paced operations at our Boat Ramp facility—all under the guidance of dedicated professionals. This supervised leadership experience includes skill evaluation and feedback to support professional growth.

Economic Development Intern

My time with the City of Virginia Beach has been a combination of learning, challenging myself, and contributing to the community.
