City Councilmember Rosemary Wilson Reappointed Virginia Beach Vice Mayor

Mayor and five councilmembers take oath of office.

Today, Rosemary Wilson, a member of Virginia Beach City Council since 2000, was once again selected to serve as the City’s vice mayor by her peers on council.

Wilson first assumed the position of vice mayor following the resignation of Jim Wood in 2021. She will continue to perform the duties of the mayor in the absence of Mayor Robert M. “Bobby” Dyer.

Wilson, who has experience as a teacher, school board member, and realtor, received 10 votes.

“It’s an honor to serve Virginia Beach as vice mayor. The work we do is crucial, and I am committed to serving our residents with dedication, integrity and respect,” said Wilson.

Wilson is the fourth woman to serve as vice mayor. Barbara Henley was elected as the first in 1982.

Incumbents Mayor Bobby Dyer, Michael Berlucchi (District 3), David “Hutch” Hutcheson (District 1) and Rosemary Wilson (District 5) were sworn in today along with Stacy Cummings (District 8) and Cal “Cash” Jackson-Green (District 7). The terms for Mayor Dyer and Councilmembers Berlucchi, Hutcheson, Jackson-Green and Wilson will last through Dec. 31, 2028. The term for Councilmember Cummings will last through Dec. 31, 2026.
