Last week, the Rudee Park design team hosted three public engagement sessions to gather valuable input from Virginia Beach residents. These sessions were an opportunity for the community to voice their ideas and priorities, helping to shape the park into a space that reflects the collective vision of residents across Virginia Beach. Your participation in this process is essential, and we thank everyone who contributed their time and feedback.

A Look Back at Our Engagement Sessions

  • Session 1: Dec. 9, Kempsville High School
Our first session kicked off at Kempsville High School, where residents shared ideas, participated in discussions and activities, and connected with other community members and the design team.
  • Session 2: Dec. 10, Holland Road Annex-Library
At our second session, held at the Holland Road Annex-Library, attendees engaged in thoughtful conversations about the future of Rudee Park and provided creative suggestions through interactive activities.
  • Session 3: Dec. 11, virtual engagement
For those unable to attend in person, we offered a virtual session, ensuring everyone had the chance to participate and share their perspectives.

What We Heard

Each session featured several interactive ways for residents to provide input:

  • Voting on Amenities and Programs: Attendees had the chance to rank their preferences for specific amenities and programs, helping us identify what matters most to the community.
  • Mapping Routes: Participants mapped their routes to the Oceanfront, offering insights into accessibility and connectivity needs.
  • Written Comments: Residents left sticky notes detailing their ideas and hopes for Rudee Park, contributing to a dynamic and collaborative brainstorming process.
  • Direct Conversations: Community members spoke with the design team and each other, sharing feedback, concerns and aspirations for this transformative project.
