Polls will be open for early voting 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning May 2, at the Voter Registrar’s Office at 2449 Princess Anne Road.

Who’s on the Ballot?

Primaries will be held to choose the candidates who will appear on the ballot in November for the Democratic and Republican parties.

Primaries only take place if two or more candidates qualify to be on the primary ballot. If only one candidate qualified, they automatically become the party’s nominee and qualify for the November General ballot.

State Elections on the Ballot

  • Lieutenant governor (Democratic candidates)
  • Attorney general (Democratic candidates)
  • Virginia House of Delegates
    • District 97 (Republican candidates only. Only one Democratic candidate qualified and will appear on the ballot in November.)

The Democratic and Republican parties have nominated an individual for governor for each party to appear on the ballot in November after no other individuals qualified for the ballot, so no primary voting will take place for governor.

For the lieutenant governor race, one of the two Republican candidates dropped out, leaving one candidate to run for the party primary uncontested. No primary vote will take place for the Republican party for lieutenant governor.

Districts 95, 96, 98, 99 and 100 do not have more than one candidate running in the primary and will not appear on the ballot in June. These races will appear on the ballot in November.

The commissioner of the revenue, commonwealth’s attorney, sheriff and City treasurer do not have more than one candidate running in the primary and will not appear on the June ballot. These races will also appear on the ballot in November.

Please note that when you request a ballot for the primary election, you must choose a party’s ballot.
