Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office Brings Community Together with Easter Eggstravaganza Event

Children ages 12 and younger can hunt for about 4,000 eggs and about 10,000 pieces of candy.

Sheriffs Office Easter Eggstravaganza

The community can enjoy an Easter egg hunt, child identification services, games, photos with the Easter Bunny, cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn and a K9 demonstration during the Easter Eggstravaganza, noon-2 p.m., April 19, at the Virginia Beach Little League Complex.

Children under 12 need to BYOB — Bring Your Own Basket — to participate in the egg hunt. The Easter Egg Hunt begins at 1:15 p.m. The hunt will have roughly 4,000 eggs and about 10,000 pieces of candy.

This year, Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE HR). This is Sheriff Rocky Holcomb’s second year hosting the Easter event, but the first that the Sheriff’s Office has partnered with NOBLE HR. The organization, founded in 1976, aims to promote dialog between law enforcement agencies and Black communities, and provide solutions to law enforcement issues and concerns. This collaboration between the two entities falls in line with VBSO’s community outreach efforts.

The Easter Bunny received help the week before the event from VBSO deputy recruits and Martha Heine, the mother of Sgt. Rainey Heine and mother-in-law of Sgt. Antoinette Heine. They spent an afternoon putting delicious candies in plastic Easter eggs for the hunt.

“Watching the children last year charge after those eggs was a sight to see and made my heart go hippity-hop,” Sheriff Holcomb said. “We can’t wait to do it all again with more fun and eggs. The VBSO loves to be part of our community.”
