Community Meeting Covers Potential Resident Impacts for Fall and Winter Oceanfront Events

The community meeting presented event-related logistics for Oceanfront events with special parking, traffic and public safety planning needs.

To keep residents informed about Oceanfront event-related logistics, public safety planning and communications, City staff shared information about fall and winter Oceanfront events at a community meeting on Sept. 26. The meeting covered fall and winter events with anticipated attendance of more than 10,000, including Boardwalk Art Show, Wicked 10K and Holiday Lights at the Beach.

Stay Informed  

Residents can stay in the know about Oceanfront event impacts throughout the entire year through several ways. 

  • Visit VirginiaBeach.gov/EventInfo to view potential event-related impacts to residents, such as road closures, prior to each event. This page also has a “Resources” section with downloadable assets, such as an event flyer and social media graphics. Resources will be updated throughout the year. 
  • Sign up for VBAlert text notifications to receive updates and emergency alerts during all major events at the Oceanfront. Text VBEVENTS to 67283 to enroll. Reply LEAVE VBEVENTS at any time to opt out.

Event Logistics  

The following Oceanfront events have an anticipated attendance of 10,000 or more per day (subject to change) and have special parking, traffic and public safety planning needs. For a full list of events, visit VisitVirginiaBeach.com. Note: Event details are subject to change. 

Boardwalk Art Show, Oct. 4-6 

  • Location: 
    • 24th Street - 35th Street on the Boardwalk 
      • Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. 
      • Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
      • Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  
  • Parking: Eventgoers will park at 25th Street and 31st Street City garages. We do not expect parking to be at capacity. 
  • No road closures. 

Wicked 10K, Oct. 25-26 

  • Locations: 
    • Pacific Avenue, Atlantic Avenue and Boardwalk 
      • Saturday, 8-10:30 a.m. 
    • Party on Sand  
      • Saturday, 8:30-11:30 a.m. 
  • Parking: Parking garages at 9th, 25th and 31st streets will remain open and accessible for the duration of the race. 25th Street garage may be at capacity in the morning only. 
  • Road closures for both Oct. 25 and 26 can be found at VirginiaBeach.gov/RoadClosures
    • Oct. 25 road closures: 
      • 5:30-7 p.m. | 19th Street closed from Parks Avenue to Pavilion Drive. Detour using 17th Street 
    • Oct. 26 road closures: 
      • 5-9:30 a.m. | 19th Street closed from Pavilion Drive to Parks Avenue 
      • 5 a.m. | Limited access to Parks Avenue from 19th Street to 21st Street 
      • 7-9:30 a.m. | 19th Street closed from Pavilion Drive to Mediterranean Avenue 
      • 7 a.m. | Mediterranean Avenue closed from 17th Street to 19th Street 
      • 7-9:45 a.m. | Virginia Beach Boulevard closed from Cypress Avenue to Atlantic Avenue 
      • 7:30-10 a.m. | Atlantic Avenue closed from Rudee Loop to 40th Street 
      • 10:30 a.m. | All roads open 
  • Additional Closure: The Boardwalk and bike path from 16th Street to 19th Street will be closed on Oct. 26 from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

Holiday Lights at the Beach, Nov. 14-Jan. 1 

  • Location: 
    • 2nd Street - 32nd Street on the Boardwalk 
      • Nov 14, 5:30-8 p.m. – Bike Night 
      • Nov. 15-Dec. 31, 5:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., and 9 p.m. 
      • Jan. 1, 5:30-8 p.m. – Bike Night 
  • Expect heavy traffic around Rudee Loop.
