Virginia Beach City Council to Conduct Public Briefing and Comment Session May 4 Regarding Avangrid Renewables LLC Proposal

Virginia Beach City Council will host a public briefing and comment session regarding a proposed wind energy and power cable project by Avangrid Renewables LLC on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. in the City Council Chamber. Representatives from Avangrid Renewables LLC will be present to provide a briefing on the project and answer questions. Residents are encouraged to attend and provide their comments on the project.

About the Project

Kitty Hawk Wind is a project of Avangrid Renewables LLC, a subsidiary of Avangrid and member of the Iberdrola Group, an energy services and delivery provider. Avangrid is requesting approval of a deed of easement for up to six power cables to make landfall at the Sandbridge municipal parking lot in Virginia Beach, Virginia for Kitty Hawk Wind, an offshore wind project with the capacity to generate electricity for approximately 1 million homes.

A presentation of the project was provided City Council Feb. 14, 2023.

To sign up to speak in person at the meeting, contact the City Clerk's office at 757-385-4303, or register with the Clerk immediately prior to the briefing. Any citizen wishing to make comments virtually during the comment session should follow a two-step process provided below:

Avangrid representatives will have displays of the project available in advance of the meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. in City Hall. Residents are encouraged to come early to view materials and meet with project representatives directly.
