VBPD Makes Quick Arrest of Suspect in Bank Robbery

On August 28, 2024, at approximately 9:44 a.m., the Virginia Beach Emergency Communications and Citizen Services (ECCS) received an alarm from the Truist Bank located in the 4500 block of Virginia Beach Boulevard, reporting a robbery in progress.Ā 

Officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to the scene, but the suspect had already fled the area before their arrival. The investigation revealed that the suspect entered the bank, demanded money from the tellers, and implied that he was armed. The suspect obtained an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing the scene.Ā 

Through an extensive investigation by the VBPD Violent Crimes Unit, the suspect was identified as Jakim Girard (M/23) of Virginia Beach. Girard was apprehended later in the day without incident.Ā 

Girard has been charged with two counts of Robbery, one count of Attempted Robbery, and three counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.Ā
