Virginia Beach Police Department Investigates Two Separate Drowning Cases Over the Weekend

​VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On Aug. 27, 2022, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to the report of a possible drowning near 16th Street.

The victim, identified as Christian Flourentine, (M/23) of Alexandria, Virginia, was last seen in the water by a family member several hours earlier. VBPD enlisted the help of the Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD), Virginia Beach Emergency Medical Services (VBEMS) and the United States Coast Guard to conduct a comprehensive search of the land and water but were unable to locate Mr. Flourentine.

At approximately 1:35 a.m. on Aug. 28, 2022, Mr. Flourentine was discovered on the shoreline, deceased, near 23rd Street. His next of kin has been notified.

On Aug. 27, 2022, a family member responded to the VBPD’s Second Precinct to report Tawakal Ali, (M/19) from Afghanistan, missing. Mr. Ali was last seen on the beach near 20th Street several hours earlier.

On Aug. 28, 2022, at approximately 12:26 p.m., officers from the VBPD were notified that a deceased male, identified as Mr. Ali, had been located in the ocean near 29th Street. Mr. Ali’s next of kin have been notified.
