VBPD Recovers Stolen Firearm, Illegal Drugs During December Traffic Blitz
Throughout December 2024, the Virginia Beach Police Department’s (VBPD) Traffic Safety Unit led an enhanced traffic enforcement initiative designed to reduce the number of crashes and dangerous driving behaviors in the city.
Commonly referred to as a “traffic blitz,” this initiative focused enforcement in each of Virginia Beach’s four precincts where historical data has identified high-crash locations and areas identified as problematic by community complaints.
December’s Traffic Blitz resulted in 337 traffic stops, 390 summonses, five arrests related to driving under the influence, two arrests related to outstanding warrants, the interception of illegal drugs, and the recovery of a stolen firearm.
“These kinds of targeted traffic enforcement initiatives play a critical role in keeping Virginia Beach the safest City of its size,” said VBPD Chief Paul Neudigate. “Not only does it make our roads safer to travel on, but it helps remove criminals from our streets and stop crimes at the source.”
VBPD launched its traffic enforcement initiative to address concerns about road safety in our community. Speeding, distracted driving, and other unsafe behaviors put lives at risk. We urge all motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians to follow the rules of the road and to take all necessary precautions to travel safely. Look for more of these initiatives in 2025.
