Suspects Arrested in Attempted Robbery/Shooting 3800 block of LaSalle Drive

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On October 7, 2022, at approximately 3:48 PM, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) were dispatched to the report of shots fired in the 3800 block of La Salle Drive. As officers were responding to that location, the City’s Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call for a gunshot wound victim at Sentara Princess Anne Hospital. Officers responded to both locations, determining the two incidents were related.

The initial investigation revealed an arranged marijuana sale between the victim and two suspects turned into an attempted robbery and shooting. The victim was shot in his upper torso and suffered non-life-threatening injuries. He was driven to the hospital by an acquaintance.

The suspects, in this case, were identified as Science Matthews (M/22) of Norfolk, VA, and Giovani Calixte, (M/21) of Virginia Beach, VA. Both men were arrested on October 9, 2022, and charged with Attempted Robbery, Malicious Wounding, and the Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.
