ShotSpotter Alert in Virginia Beach Leads to Arrest in Norfolk Following Vehicle Pursuit

​VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – January 31, 2022, at 0119 a ShotSpotter alert was triggered in the 800 Block of Chalk Court, for seven discharged rounds. Officers canvassed the scene and located shell casings in the area but found no evidence of property damage or injured parties. However, officers did observe a dark-colored vehicle fleeing the area at a high rate of speed, operating without the use of headlights. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver fled, driving recklessly from the area when officers began their pursuit. Additionally, dispatch was able to identify the vehicle as being reported stolen from Portsmouth, VA.

The pursuit lasted approximately eleven minutes and ended in Norfolk, where suspects fled the vehicle. Officers were able to apprehend two of the five suspects (Xavier Woodhouse - 19/M and Takki Joyner – 19/M). Virginia State Police and Norfolk PD aided in the pursuit and helped canvass the area for the remaining suspects, but none were located.

Further investigation revealed that the involved stolen vehicle was taken during a Carjacking with a weapon implied. It appears one of the captured suspects fits the description of the involved suspect in the carjacking. Portsmouth PD was notified of the recovered stolen car and suspect apprehension.

Woodhouse was charged by VBPD officers with numerous traffic offenses to include Felony Eluding.
