Public Works Provides Update on Eastern Shore Drive Drainage Projects as Phase I Nears Completion

Virginia Beach Public Works is currently completing construction work on Phase I of the Eastern Shore Drive Drainage Improvements Project.

Phase I construction involved relocating a large gravity sanitary sewer which exists beneath the Cape Henry Canal, to underneath Cape Henry Drive. This work is necessary to widen and deepen the Cape Henry Canal beginning in the summer of 2023.

Because of this work during Phase II, the contractor must provide a pedestrian detour for the Cape Henry Trail.

The planned detour will begin at Ebb Tide Road; direct pedestrians northward to Shore Drive, and then bring them back to the trail at Sea Shell Road.

The contractor will continue to ensure access to residents' driveways, mail delivery, trash pickup, and emergency vehicles.

The anticipated schedule for this trail detour is expected to be in place beginning Monday, Nov. 21, and continue until sometime in the spring-summer of 2023.

The contractor for the job is Trident Civil.
