Pre-Screening for Virginia Beach Winter Shelter Now Open Through Nov. 22
Program Begins Nov. 23 to Provide Overnight Shelter for Homeless Adults during the Winter
The City's Winter Shelter program provides unsheltered individuals a warm place to sleep each night at various faith organizations throughout Virginia Beach. Pre-screening is now open to help determine how many people will need Winter Shelter and identify the most vulnerable adults experiencing homelessness. It does not guarantee placement in the Winter Shelter.
Pre-screening for homeless adults (18 and older) in need of overnight shelter during the winter will be held at the Housing Resource Center and PiN Ministry during the following dates and times:
Now through Nov. 22
Monday through Thursday, from 1-4 p.m.
Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
PiN Ministry
1164 Millers Lane, Suite A
Nov. 17, 18 and 21
9 a.m. to Noon
Housing Resource Center
104 N. Witchduck Road
The Winter Shelter will begin Wednesday, Nov. 23, and run through March 22, 2023.
PiN Ministry, under a contract with Virginia Beach Housing & Neighborhood Preservation, operates the Winter Shelter program and provides participants with transportation. Participating faith organizations rotate weekly to provide overnight shelter and meals. Some organizations may also provide additional support and resources, such as toiletries and clothing. For more information about the Winter Shelter program, contact PiN Ministry at 757-962-3567.
Families with children experiencing homelessness who need overnight shelter should call the Regional Housing Crisis Hotline at 757-227-5932, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. or visit the Housing Resource Center Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday, from 8 a.m. to noon for triage and assessment.
