Multiple Arrests Made in Oceanfront Shooting Case
On September 4, 2022, at approximately 11:53 PM, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) received a ShotSpotter Alert, directing them to the 1600 block of Atlantic Ave.
As officers arrived, they observed multiple individuals attempting to flee the area and located multiple victims with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Officers detained several individuals and rendered aid to the victims until medical personnel arrived. An additional victim was located at a local hospital, who had also sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
After an extensive investigation, several individuals were identified by detectives on September 6, 2022. Adrian Cuffee, (M/21) of Virginia Beach, and Jaden Smith, (M/20) of Virginia Beach, were both arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Shooting from a Vehicle, Shooting within 100ft of a School, Shooting at an Occupied Vehicle, and two counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.
Subsequently, detectives identified two other individuals as being involved in the shooting. Rashad Riddick, (M/29) of Newport News, was arrested and charged with two counts of Aggravated Malicious Wounding, Shooting from a Vehicle, Shooting within 100ft of a School, Shooting at an Occupied Vehicle, and two counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony. David Evans, (M/30) of Norfolk, has arrest warrants on file for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, and Shooting at an Occupied Vehicle. His whereabouts are unknown at this time.
