Love For VB: Reminders of Remembrance for May 31, 2019

As May 31 approaches, the City of Virginia Beach invites the community to show "Love For VB" in remembrance of the lives lost and forever changed in May 2019.

On Saturday, May 31, 2025, we invite you to:

  • Wear blue, the color of remembrance
  • Attend the Six-Year Remembrance Ceremony to gather and remember those we lost and lift up survivors and all those still healing. This intimate, in-person gathering will begin at 4 p.m. Since the location of the future 5/31 memorial is an active construction site, the event will be held at the Mary C. Russo Volunteer Recognition Gazebo, located behind City Hall, Building 1, 2401 Courthouse Drive. It is free and open to the public and will occur rain or shine.
  • Partake in a Moment of Silence at 4:06 p.m., the time that the first 911 call was received. Individuals are asked to pause wherever they are at that time.
