Human Services Partners with the Foodbank to Serve Up to 2,000 Households at April 4 Drive-Thru Food Pantry
The Department of Human Services will partner with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore for a drive-thru food distribution from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, at the Veterans United Home Loan Amphitheater.
"Inflation has made it a challenge for many of our residents to provide food for their families while also paying their bills," said Human Services Director Aileen L. Smith. "Serving the community in this way lets us help to ease that burden and provides an opportunity for us to work towards eliminating hunger in our city. I would also like to thank the Virginia Beach Police Department, Parks & Recreation and Public Works for joining us in this effort."
The mobile pantry is funded by the Virginia Beach City Council through American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, and it is open to all Virginia Beach residents on a first come, first serve basis or until the food runs out. Individuals who come to the drive-thru pantry will receive approximately 60 pounds of fresh and shelf-stable foods.
