General Contractors Needed for Housing & Neighborhood Preservation’s Home Rehabilitation Projects

Housing & Neighborhood Preservation invites general contractors specializing in home rehabilitation to register for opportunities to submit proposals for the department's Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program (OORP) projects.

Through the Owner-Occupied Rehabilitation Program, loans and grants are provided to eligible low- to moderate-income homeowners to help make necessary home rehabilitation and repairs more affordable. Examples of repairs and modifications include replacing HVAC systems, roofs, siding, and windows; correcting critical electrical, gas, and plumbing hazards; accessibility and usability modifications and improvements; and more.

Contractors must be licensed Class A or B contractors registered in Virginia. Only approved contractors registered with Housing & Neighborhood Preservation are eligible to submit proposals for the department's OORP projects.

"It's important that we have a broad pool of approved contractors that can partner with us so that we have more opportunities to assist more households who need this assistance," said Karen Prochilo, housing development administrator. "When homeowners are able to keep their home in good repair, it not only helps protect their investment but safe and well-maintained homes also contribute to vibrant neighborhoods, which helps everyone enjoy a better quality of life."

To learn more, interested contractors can visit www.vbgov.com/home-rehab or contact Housing & Neighborhood Preservation's Housing Development division at (757) 385-5834 or HomeRehab@vbgov.com.
