Fatal Crash Investigation – 6000 Indian River Road
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On August 18, 2022, at approximately 9:58pm, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) and members of the Special Operations Traffic Safety Unit responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 6000 block of Indian River Road.
The preliminary investigation revealed a motorist with a disabled vehicle was stopped in a turn lane with the hood up and emergency flashers on. A second motorist stopped to assist the person with the disabled vehicle. The second motorist was struck as they approached the disabled vehicle, by a vehicle traveling on Indian River Road.
The pedestrian was identified as Juan Ocasio Encarnacion, (M/55) of Virginia Beach. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His next of kin has been notified.
