Fatal Crash Investigation

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – March 23, 2022, at approximately 2024 hours, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) and members of the Special Operations Bureau responded to the report of a single vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 400 block of S. Independence Blvd. The investigation revealed the victim was walking across S. Independence Blvd., stepped into the outside lane of south bound traffic, and was struck by a sedan. The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation. There are currently no pending charges for the driver.

The victim was identified as Dawn McClaren, a 41-year-old female from Virginia Beach, and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin have been notified.
