Eight Members of VBFD Swiftwater Rescue Team (VA-2) Activated to Support the Virginia Department of Emergency Management’s Water Rescue Response to Hurricane Helene
Eight (8) members of the Virginia Beach Fire Department’s Swiftwater Rescue Team, VA-2, were activated on September 25, 2024, at 0800 hours to support the Virginia Department of Emergency Management’s Water Rescue Team’sresponse to Hurricane Helene. The team will depart from the Harry E. Diezel Fire Training Center, 927 S. Birdneck Road, at 1100, Thursday, September 26, 2024, and are expected to stage in Hillsville, Virginia, Thursday afternoon before 1800 hours, to await assignment.
VBFD’s Swiftwater Rescue Team is one (1) of approximately thirty (30) Swiftwater Rescue Teams positioned across the Commonwealth of Virginia. This is the third deployment since the team’s inception in 2022.
