Department of Human Services to Reopen to Public on Monday, Feb. 14

​The Department of Human Services (DHS) is pleased to announce that it will reopen its lobby doors to the public on Monday, Feb. 14. Walk-ins are welcome however the department encourages anyone seeking assistance to connect with programs and services electronically whenever possible in an effort to reduce the number of individuals in the facilities at any given time.

In the event a face-to-face meeting is necessary, it can be scheduled by appointment and held in a setting where social distancing can be maintained to the greatest extent possible. Exceptions will be made for emergency services such as crisis intervention or when an immediate response is necessary.

"We are pleased to once more reopen our lobbies to our community," said DHS Director Aileen L. Smith. "DHS staff have remained committed to serving the needs of our community and have worked diligently throughout the entire pandemic, whether from the office or at home. We look forward to welcoming more of our residents into our offices and continue to connect them to vital programs and services that impact their daily lives."

Following the recommended guidance from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and the Virginia Department of Health, the DHS respectfully requests that individuals visiting any of our facilities wear a mask or face covering during their visit. In the event an individual is not able to wear a mask or face covering, the department will accommodate their needs in a manner that is safe for all involved. DHS will not deny services to anyone however services may be offered through alternative means when necessary and appropriate to do so.
