City Manager Appoints New Director of Virginia Beach Public Library

Following a nationwide search, City Manager Patrick Duhaney has selected Kimberly B. Knight to take the helm of the City's award-winning library system. Knight, who has 20 years of experience in public library leadership, strategic and long-range planning, and policy development, currently serves as the deputy director for the Alexandria Library in Alexandria, Virginia. She will begin work in Virginia Beach on March 17.

Prior to being at Alexandria, Knight worked as assistant director for Chesapeake Public Library and has served in several library managerial positions in various Virginia, District of Columbia, and California library systems.

"As her career has progressed, Kimberly has demonstrated in-depth knowledge of all aspects of municipal library systems. She is a proven leader who understands the importance of the City of Virginia Beach Public Library maintaining its mission of providing access to quality resources, engaging programs and welcoming spaces for our diverse community," said Duhaney.

Knight received her bachelor's degree in English from the University of Virginia and Master of Science in library and information science from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is currently serving as vice president/president elect for the Virginia Library Association and has held positions with the Public Library Association and American Library Association.
