Chad Caruso Finishes Cross-Country Skateboard Ride in Virginia Beach, Virginia

After skateboarding 3,000 miles across country, skateboarder Chad Caruso will arrive at Neptune's Park in Virginia Beach on Friday, May 19, 2023, between 3 and 5 p.m.

The Long Island, New York native started his cross-country journey on March 24, 2023, in Venice Beach, California in hopes of making it to Virginia Beach just in time for the first edition of JACKALOPE. JACKALOPE is a Montreal-based, action sports event, which is expanding this year and taking place in Virginia Beach for the first time, June 2-4, 2023. Once Chad completes his trip, he also will be a Guinness World Record holder for the fastest crossing of America on a manually powered skateboard for a male.

"We're absolutely pumped to have teamed up with Chad Caruso for this epic adventure of skating across America," said Micah Desforges, Jackalope producer. "It's been an unforgettable journey and Chad has truly become a living legend by fearlessly embracing this colossal challenge. We applaud his unyielding determination and are beyond proud to have him as an ambassador for this year's Jackalope festival in Virginia Beach."

As Chad makes his way across America, he is also raising money for addiction awareness among youth. Sober for six years, skateboarding was integral in his recovery and he is using it to share a positive message and raise funds for Natural High, a drug prevention nonprofit.

"It's been a thrill to follow Chad's journey across the nation on approach to this inaugural JACKALOPE event in Virginia Beach," said Nancy Helman, director of the Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau. "His spirit, fortitude and passion for the sport have propelled him to our coastal city. We look forward to welcoming him, the festival competitors and fans for an action-packed weekend."

This is the first time JACKALOPE festival will be held in the United States. The public is invited to witness world-class competitions and demonstrations by world-renowned skateboarders and boulderers, plus BASE jumpers leaping from atop the Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront hotel. Spectators also can check out additional skimboard, freestyle motocross and beach volleyball competitions featuring hundreds of athletes of all ages throughout the festival weekend. There is no charge to attend the events.
