Automatic License Plate Recognition Technology Leads to 3 Charged for Receiving Stolen Motor Vehicle

​VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On August 12, 2022, officers assigned to the Virginia Beach Police Department’s (VBPD) Second Precinct received an Automatic License Place Recognition (ALPR) hit for a stolen motor vehicle near the intersection of Birdneck Road and Virginia Beach Boulevard. The officers quickly located the stolen vehicle which was now unoccupied. Further investigation quickly identified three suspects who had been in the car: a male/17, male/14, and a female/17.

After consulting with Juvenile Intake, detention was denied for all three individuals who, as a result, were then released to their guardians. VBPD has filed for the appropriate criminal and traffic charges in this incident.
