Asst. Commonwealth’s Attorney Andrew Rice Elected Virginia Beach Bar Association President
Virginia Beach, Va. -- Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney C. Andrew Rice was sworn in as President of the Virginia Beach Bar Association (VBBA) on December 6, 2024. Over the last five (5) years, Rice has served as a Director, Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice President of the VBBA. He has previously chaired multiple committees during his ten (10) years of involvement, including Golf, Young Lawyers, and Web Tech. He’s taught over fifteen (15) hours of instruction for the VBBA over the last several years on topics including ethics, juvenile motions practice, and discovery. Rice has also helped with the mentorship program, which pairs at risk elementary school students with professional mentors.
“Being the first prosecutor to serve as President of the VBBA in the past fifty (50) years is an honor,” Rice said. “I hope that this further proves that we have the most congenial Bar in the State of Virginia. Our attorneys can be fierce competitors and adversaries in the courtroom yet come together as friends and colleagues to promote justice, fairness, charity, and the highest ethical standards of our profession. I cannot wait to serve the members of the Virginia Beach Bar and look forward to continuing the good work that our Board has done in the past.”
Rice has been a prosecutor at the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office for over twelve (12) years and has spent seven (7) of those years on the Juvenile and Domestic Relations prosecution team. He specializes in child abuse and sexual assault cases as well as juvenile gang cases.
Rice is on the faculty of several prosecutor trainings to include Prosecutor Bootcamp (taught twice a year), Sound of Silence, and IMPACT. He teaches a total of fifteen (15) hours of instruction yearly and has taught over 48 hours in the last three (3) years.
Rice received the 2023 Crime Solvers Prosecutor of the Year Award. He received his bachelor’s degree from the Virginia Military Institute in 2009 and his J.D. from Regent University in 2012 and has dedicated his entire career to prosecution.
