Plan to Deep-Fry Your Turkey? Now There’s an Easy Way to Dispose of the Oil

This service is available to Virginia Beach residents only.

Deep fried Turkey

Virginia Beach Public Utilities will provide drop-off sites for residential quantities of fats, oil, and grease the week after Thanksgiving. The staffed drop-off sites are located at select Public Utilities pump stations and will be open daily between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Monday, Nov. 28 through Friday, Dec. 2.

Residents may drop off their fats, oil, and grease at one of the following locations:

  • 1062 Ferry Plantation Road
  • 3793 Lampl Avenue
  • 1308 Park Center Drive

This program will provide residents with an easy way to ensure their fats, oil and grease are properly disposed of after deep-frying a turkey or other holiday cooking. Improper disposal methods, such as pouring fats, oil or grease down the drain or in your yard harm private drains, City infrastructure and the environment.

Motor oil and drop-offs from commercial businesses will not be accepted.

The Virginia Beach Resource Recovery Center located at 1989 Jake Sears Road is available year-round for dropping off residential quantities of fats, oil and grease. The Resource Recovery Center is generally open from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Center will be closed Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 24) and the Friday after (Nov. 25). It will be open Saturday (Nov. 26) and is closed on Mondays.
