Labor Day Weekend: Logistics for Locals and Visitors

Celebrating the end of summer, residents and visitors can enjoy FREE live music and a new race at the Oceanfront this weekend! Kick off the weekend with FREE concerts starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, through Sunday, Sept. 3 at the 17th, 24th and 31st street parks. Making its inaugural debut this Labor Day weekend is the Virginia Beach 10 Miler, Sept. 2-3. A 5k race will take place on Saturday with the 10 Miler race on Sunday, both starting at 7 a.m. at 15th Street and Pacific. Spectators can cheer on the runners along Atlantic Avenue and watch them cross the finish line, located at 18th Street on the boardwalk. Good luck to all the runners!

Please be advised of the following road closures during the race:

Saturday, Sept. 2

Road closures beginning at 5 a.m.:

• Pacific Avenue from 9th to 17th streets
• 200 blocks of 9th to 17th streets (soft closure with access to Atlantic Avenue)

Road closures beginning at 6:30 a.m.:

• Pacific Avenue from 5th to 25th streets
• Atlantic Avenue from Rudee Loop North to 25th Street
• 200 blocks of 5th to 25th streets

All roads will be reopened to traffic by 8:30 a.m. It is estimated that Pacific Avenue will reopen from 9th to 25th streets by 8 a.m.

Sunday, Sept. 3

Road closures beginning at 5 a.m.:

• Pacific Avenue from 9th to 17th streets
• 200 Blocks of 9th to 17th streets (soft closure with access to Atlantic Avenue)

Road closures beginning at 6:30 a.m.:

• Pacific Avenue from 5th to 30th streets
• Atlantic Avenue from Rudee Loop North to 39th Street
• 200 Blocks of 5th to 39th streets
• Northbound General Booth Boulevard from Rudee Bridge to Birdneck Road
• Birdneck Road from General Booth to Gate 10 entry to Camp Pendleton – SMR

All roads will be reopened to traffic by 11 a.m. with the following estimated times for each road:

• Pacific Avenue North of 9th Street/Norfolk Avenue to 32nd Street. – est. by 8:25 a.m.
• Atlantic Avenue North of 5th/Winston-Salem Avenue – est. by 9:05 a.m.
• Birdneck Road westbound lane from Prosperity to General Booth Boulevard – est. by 10 a.m.
• Northbound General Booth Boulevard from Birdneck Road to 5th Street/Winston-Salem Avenue – est. by 10:30 a.m.

Please note that this Labor Day weekend is the last weekend for peak parking pricing in 2023. City-owned parking garages and lots will charge a daily flat rate of $15 from Sept. 1-3.
