VBPD Investigating Fatal Crash Involving Cyclist on Arctic Avenue
On October 13, 2024, at 9:54 p.m., Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers responded to a crash involving a cyclist at the intersection of 30th Street and Arctic Avenue.
The cyclist, identified as Matthew Hurley (M/37) of Virginia Beach, was found with life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries on October 16, 2024.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Hurley, traveling west on 30th Street, entered the intersection against a red traffic signal and collided with a vehicle traveling north on Arctic Avenue. The driver of the vehicle remained on-scene and cooperated with emergency personnel.
