Update: VBPD Responds to Shooting on Lynnhaven Parkway

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, November 28, 2023 –The victim of the shooting on Lynnhaven Parkway, Eldon Valery (M/59) of Virginia Beach, succumbed to his injuries on October 30, 2023. The Virginia Beach Commonwealth Attorney's Office authorized 2nd Degree Murder charges against the suspect, Kristin Barber. She was officially charged on November 25, 2023 and remains in custody.

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, October 16, 2023 – On October 7, 2023, at 9:14 P.M., officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to the report of a shooting at the intersection of Indian River Road and Lynnhaven Parkway.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers immediately administered lifesaving efforts to the victim who was found with a life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

A passenger in the vehicle, Kristin Barber (F/34) of Virginia Beach, was initially arrested and charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, and Child Neglect. On October 14, 2023, Barber was served with additional charges of Aggravated Malicious Wounding and Shooting in a Vehicle.

The victim remains in critical condition but is stable.
