Community Member’s Report Leads to Quick Apprehension of Suspects in Attempted Storage Unit Burglary
On November 5, 2023, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Virginia Beach Emergency Communication Citizens Services received a call for a burglary in progress at a storage unit complex at the 6500 block of Shore Drive. Thanks to the rapid response of Virginia Beach Police Department Third Precinct Officers, the suspects were promptly taken into custody.
Two individuals, identified as Daumauier Downey (M/33) of Virginia Beach, and Reinaldo Leitao (M/46) of Hampton, were arrested on-scene and now face a series of charges including Commercial Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary and Possession of Burglarious Tools.
Without the vigilant observation and reporting by a community member, this case may still be open. As always, we urge all citizens to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity. Together we can make a significant difference in the prevention and investigation of criminal activities in Virginia Beach.
