Citizen Reports Suspicious Activity, Leads to Arrest and Recover of Stolen Firearm

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA, March 27, 2023 – On March 25, 2023, at approximately 10:00 P.M., Virginia Beach officers were flagged down by a citizen to report a suspicious activity - a male pointing a firearm at passing vehicles at the 900 block of Atlantic Avenue.

Officers responded to the area in search of the suspect. The Second Precinct Camera Operator located him on top of a parking garage holding a firearm. Travon Avery (M/23) of Portsmouth was detained by officers without incident.

A handgun was retrieved from Mr. Avery. The firearm retrieved was reported stolen out of Portsmouth. Mr. Avery was arrested and charged with Receipt of a Stolen Firearm, Reckless Handling of a Firearm and Carrying Concealed Weapon.
