Body Recovered in Sandbridge Beach Area

On Friday, September 16, 2022 an off-duty officer observed what they believed to be a body in the water off the beach in the 3100 block of Sandfiddler Road. With the assistance of staff from the Virginia Beach Fire Department Station 17, the body was able to be recovered from the water and then was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office for identification.

On Tuesday, September 20, 2022, the Medical Examiner’s office positively identified the individual as Ryan Tew, who was previously reported missing by the Coast Guard on September 14, 2022. Tew’s next of kin have been notified.
