Virginia Beach Health Department to Host Free Flu Vaccination Clinic Oct. 19

Adults and children ages 3 and older can get free seasonal flu vaccines on Oct. 19. The Virginia Beach Department of Public Health will host a drive-through clinic, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Green Run High School, 1700 Dahlia Drive.

Virginia Beach Department of Public Health nurses, Virginia Beach Medical Reserve Corps volunteer nurses and Virginia Beach EMS personnel will administer the 600 available vaccines on a first-come, first-served basis. An immunization record should be brought for children ages 3-8.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, influenza viruses typically circulate widely in the United States annually, from the late fall through early spring.

Although most persons who become infected with influenza viruses will recover without complications, influenza can cause serious illness and death, particularly among older adults, very young children, pregnant women, and those with chronic medical conditions. Annual influenza vaccination is the primary means of preventing influenza and its complications.
