Community Meeting Covers Potential Resident Impacts for Late Summer Oceanfront Events
The community meeting presented event-related logistics for Oceanfront events with special parking, traffic and public safety planning needs.
To keep residents informed about Oceanfront event-related logistics, public safety planning and communications, City staff shared information about late summer Oceanfront events at a community meeting on July 25. The meeting covered late summer events with anticipated attendance of more than 10,000 per day, including East Coast Surfing Championships, Funk Fest Beach Party, Virginia Beach 10 Miler & 5K (Labor Day Weekend) and Neptune Festival Boardwalk Weekend. An additional community meeting will be held to cover fall and winter events.
Stay Informed
Residents can stay in the know about Oceanfront event impacts throughout the entire year through several ways.
- Visit VirginiaBeach.gov/EventInfo to view potential event-related impacts to residents, such as road closures, prior to each event. This page also has a “Resources” section with downloadable assets, such as an event flyer and social media graphics. Resources will be updated throughout the year.
- Sign up for VBAlert text notifications to receive updates and emergency alerts during all major events at the Oceanfront. Text VBEVENTS to 67283 to enroll. Reply LEAVE VBEVENTS at any time to opt out.

The following Oceanfront events have an anticipated attendance of 10,000 or more per day (subject to change) and have special parking, traffic and public safety planning needs. For a full list of events, visit VisitVirginiaBeach.com. Note: Event details are subject to change.
East Coast Surfing Championships, Aug. 23-25*
*Some surf heats will begin sooner.
- Locations:
- 1st Street - 9th Street on the beach and Boardwalk.
- Parking: Expect 2nd Street, Rudee Loop, and 4th Street lots as well as 9th Street garage to be utilized.
- No planned road closures.
Funk Fest Beach Party, Aug. 23-24
- Locations:
- 24th Street on the beach.
- Friday-Saturday, 6-11 p.m.
- 24th Street on the beach.
- Parking: Expect 25th Street parking garage to be at capacity for this weekend.
- No planned road closures.
Virginia Beach 10 Miler & 5K, Aug. 31-Sept.1
- Locations:
- 13th Street on the beach south of pier. Course to run Atlantic Avenue, Pacific Avenue and Boardwalk.
- Friday-Sunday, 7-11 a.m.

- Parking: Expect 9th Street, 25th Street and 31st Street parking garages to be utilized.
- Planned road closures to be sent out in the coming week.
Neptune Festival Weekend, Sept. 27-29

- 1st Street - 33rd Street on the Boardwalk and beach.
- Friday, noon to 11 p.m.
- Saturday, 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- 1st Street - 33rd Street on the Boardwalk and beach.
- Parking: Expect 9th Street, 25th Street, 31st Street parking garages to be at capacity for this weekend.
- Planned road closure for parade and run.
