Sandler Center Exhibit, ‘Recollections,’ Features Works of Local Artist Joseph Simone

Free impressionist art exhibit on view April 2-July 1.

Art by Joseph Simone

The next Sandler Center for the Performing Arts Art Gallery exhibition highlights the decades-long body of work of Virginia Beach-based impressionist artist Joseph Simone

Simone, known for his oil and acrylic canvases that build a sense of nostalgia for old American cities, presents "Recollections," the final public exhibition of his career, which highlights his numerous strong and stoic scenes. Over time, the artist’s subjects and perspective have morphed into a lighter, more integrated whole, due to the artist’s awe of the intrigue and mystery of life beyond the here and now.

“Recollections” will be on view April 2-July 1, whenever the Sandler Center box office is open, as well as to event ticketholders during Sandler Center events.

The Sandler Center and Sandler Center Foundation will host a free, public opening reception for this exhibition, 6-8 p.m., April 6. The Sandler Center Foundation requests those planning to attend to please RSVP online in advance of the reception.

The artist, originally from Saratoga Springs, New York, began sketching and drawing the 19th century Victorian architecture found in his hometown, inspired by their lines and designs, which gave him a sense of nostalgic magic for bygone generations. In addition to his artistic ventures, Simone dedicated his career to a variety of humanitarian, healthcare, public service and entrepreneurial roles, serving on many boards and committees in the public and private sectors.
