Virginia Beach Recycling Survey Now Open

Residents are invited to provide input on Virginia Beach’s recycling program

Virginia Beach residents can assist City leadership in determining the future of the City’s curbside recycling program by completing a survey.

The 17-question recycling survey is available at SpeakUpVB.com/Recycling beginning today, and runs through Friday, Nov. 17. Before completing the survey, residents can review the information tabs on the project page, including a brief overview of the current state of recycling, the current recycling contract, educational information about what can be recycled in Virginia Beach and the options available for a recycling program moving forward.

Residents may request to receive a paper version of the survey by postal mail to be completed and returned, instead of completing the survey online. To request the paper survey, please call 757-385-4679.

The City of Virginia Beach's curbside recycling contract with Tidewater Fibre Corp. (TFC Recycling) expires in June 2024. Changes in the global commodities market have led to increased costs in recycling operations. The recycling survey seeks to assess residents' opinions of recycling and the options available after the contract expires. City leaders will use the results of the survey to develop polices and make decisions on the future of the City’s recycling program and how it will be funded in the proposed FY24-25 budget.

Residents are encouraged to learn more at SpeakUpVB.com/Recycling. Content on the project page and the survey can be translated into several languages via the Google Translate tool available at the top right of the webpage.

Questions concerning the survey or information on the project page can be directed to Nancy Bloom of the Communications Department at 757-385-6279 or nbloom@vbgov.com.
