ShotSpotter Alert Assists Officers in Quick Arrest

​VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On Aug. 28, 2022, at approximately 3:10 a.m., an on-duty Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) police officer advised the dispatcher that he heard a series of gunfire. Simultaneously, the officers received a ShotSpotter Alert directing them to the 1000 block of Virginia Beach Blvd.

Upon the officers’ arrival to the case location, they discovered several citizens. During the officers’ investigation they recovered shell casings and two firearms. The individuals were then detained by the officers and Jalaun Colbert (M/27) of Norfolk, Virginia, was arrested and charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm, Discharging of a Firearm within City Limits (x3), and Public Intoxication.
