Advance Section 1C.2 Gravity Sanitary Sewer Relocation; Transition from Phase 1 to Phase 2 Construction on Cape Henry Drive between Lynn Road and Ebb Tide Road
Virginia Beach Public Works is providing an update for Eastern Shore Drive Drainage Improvements Project - Cape Henry Canal Phase II.
The contractor is very near completion of Phase 1 construction, relocating a large gravity sanitary sewer which exists beneath the Cape Henry Canal, to underneath Cape Henry Drive. This work is necessary to widen and deepen the Cape Henry Canal beginning summer of 2023.
The contractor will reopen Scallop Road, Starfish Road, Urchin Road, Elder Road and the west end of Cape Henry Drive to normal thru traffic, formerly in Phase 1. For Phase 2, a new detour will affect the eastern portion of Cape Henry Drive and will close the following side streets to thru traffic: Lynn Road, Sea Shell Road and Red Tide Road. In November, Cape Henry trail patrons were redirected northward to Shore Drive. The contractor will continue to provide access to residents' driveways, mail delivery, trash pickup, and emergency vehicles. Please reference the attached map.
The anticipated schedule for Phase 2 Construction is Dec. 19, 2022, until Spring-Summer 2023. The contractor for the job is Trident Civil.
