Councilmember Taylor to Host Virginia Beach Housing Summit on May 24

Councilmember Chris Taylor will host the Virginia Beach Housing Summit on Wednesday, May 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library, 4100 Virginia Beach Blvd.

The Housing Summit will offer the opportunity for residents who have a personal and professional interest in housing to learn from experts in the field during break-out sessions and panel discussions. Featured speakers are local housing developers Steve Lawson, chairman of the board of The Lawson Companies; Jessica Guglielmo, president and chief executive officer of the Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation; and a representative from The Franklin Johnston Group; and Andrew Friedman, consultant and former director of the Department of Housing and Neighborhood Preservation.

Topics to be covered include tools for affordable housing development, affordable housing facts vs. myths, ways local governments create affordable housing and perspectives from housing developers.
