Vote 2024: Early Voting for Nov. 5 General Election Begins on Sept. 20
Voters can select their candidates of choice for federal and local elections.
Polls will be open for early voting Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Voter Registrar’s Office at 2449 Princess Anne Road. Voters will select their chosen candidate for federal and local races.

Know Your DistrictÂ
To determine which local election district they reside in, voters may visit VirginiaBeach.gov/KnowYourDistrict. They also may call 311 or view a map at all Virginia Beach public libraries and recreation centers.Â
Voting by MailÂ
Individuals who would like to vote by mail may complete an online application with the Virginia Department of Elections. Paper applications should be returned to the Voter Registrar’s Office by email at grabsentee@vbgov.com or by mail to: Â

Vote-by-mail ballots returned in person must be received by the Voter Registrar’s Office no later than 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5.  Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked on or before Election Day (Nov. 5) and received by the Voter Registrar’s Office no later than noon the Friday after the election (Nov. 8).Â
Registering to VoteÂ
Eligible individuals may register to vote using one of the following methods between now and the deadline on Oct. 15:Â
- Online, with the Virginia Department of Elections. Applications must be received by 11:59 p.m.Â
- In person at the Voter Registrar’s Office by 5 p.m.Â
- At any Virginia DMV location by the close of business.Â
- At any Virginia Beach Public Library location by 6 p.m., except for the Meyera E. Oberndorf Central Library by 8 p.m.Â
Same-day registration will continue for the remainder of the early voting period and the day of the election. Individuals who opt to register and vote on the same day will be given a provisional ballot and instructions to confirm their registration. More information about same-day registration may be found on the Virginia Department of Elections website.Â
Don’t Forget Your IDÂ
When casting a ballot, be sure to bring an accepted form of identification. Any voter who does not present an acceptable identification must sign a statement, subject to felony penalties, that they are the named registered voter for their ballot to be countedÂ
Voters who do not sign the statement or present an accepted form of identification must vote with a provisional ballot.Â
Voters required by the Help America Vote Act (52 U.S.C. § 21083(b)) to show identification the first time they vote in a federal election must present one of the following: Â
- A current and valid photo identification. Â
- A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck or other government document containing the name and address of the voter.Â
Important Dates and DeadlinesÂ
- Sept. 20: First day of in-person early voting.Â
- Oct. 15: The last day to register to vote or update an existing registration.Â
- Oct. 25: Deadline to apply for a ballot to be mailed to you.Â
- Oct. 26: Early voting on Saturdays begins, satellite voting locations open.
- Nov. 2: The last Saturday early voting date and the last date to vote early.Â
- Nov. 5: Election Day. Vote-by-mail ballots returned in person must be received by 7 p.m.
- Nov. 8: Absentee ballots by mail must be received by noon.
