Fall in Love to the Rhythm of a Steel Drum Band at the Oceanfront this Weekend

This weekend’s Virginia International PANFestival will bring a celebration of steel drum beats that to the resort area this weekend. Head to the 24^th Street Stage Friday and Saturday for a mass band/ensemble song workshop and ensemble performances.

The Jesse Chong Band will open Friday at 6 p.m. followed by headliners, The Hells Gate Steel Orchestra at 8 p.m. Jonathan Scales Fourchestra will open at 7 p.m. on Saturday, again followed by headliners The Hells Gate Steel Orchestra at 8:30 p.m.

During the workshop on Friday, steel bands will be divided into sections to learn from steel drum instructors before coming together to perform. The ensemble performances will feature steel bands from across the country for 15 to 20 minutes at a time.

About the Headliners

The Hells Gate Steel Orchestra was born at “The Point” Antigua, W.I. and is the oldest steel orchestra in the world. This steel orchestra performs all over the world and the group has won 21 steel band competitions to date.
