The VBFD Asks the Community and Businesses to “Light the Night” in Red for National Fallen Firefighters Week, May 1-5
Every year, the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation sponsors the annual Light the Night in Red, the official national tribute to firefighters who died in the line of duty (LODD) during the previous year. As dusk turns dark, landmarks, homes, fire service organizations, and businesses across the country will “Light the Night” in red, to honor fallen firefighters and their families.
This year we are honoring VBFD Captain Matthew “Chevy” R. Chiaverotti who passed away April 17, 2023, following a courageous battle with Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer. Matt was a 20-year decorated and beloved veteran of the VBFD.
VBFD is asking residents and businesses to illuminate their homes and businesses, the week of May 1-5 and/or the evening of May 4, by replacing their porch light, with a red light bulb to show support for Chevy and the 226 firefighters who died in the Line of Duty this past year. Please share your photos on the VBFD’s Facebook page.
Local facilities/landmarks that will light up in red for “Light the Night” include:
· Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center – 717 General Booth Blvd.
· Virginia Beach Convention Center Tower – 1000 19th St.
· Virginia Beach Municipal Center, Building 30 – 2508 Princess Anne Road
· Harry E. Diezel Fire Training Center – 927 S. Birdneck Road
· VBFD Fire Station 10 - Woodstock - 5656 Providence Road
