VBPD Makes Arrest for Malicious Wounding on Woolard Crescent

On August 15, 2026, at approximately 3:40 a.m., Virginia Beach Emergency Communications and Citizen Services received a ShotSpotter activation in the 800 block of Woolard Crescent. A simultaneous 911 call was received for a gunshot victim in the same area.

Upon arrival, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) located a 31-year-old male of Virginia Beach with multiple gunshot wounds. VBPD officers provided medical aid until VBFD and EMS arrived. A second victim 31-year-old male of Norfolk was located and sustained injuries from an assault. Both victims were transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The VBPD Homicide Squad was able to develop investigative leads, as well as utilizing our Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system, to identify the suspect vehicle in the offense. On August 19, 2026, VBPD arrested Jonmir A. Lawton (M/23) of Virginia Beach, and Kaire R. Terrell (M/21) of Norfolk. Both were charged with aggravated malicious wounding x2, use of firearm in commission of a felony x3, and shooting within 1000 feet of a public school and robbery. During the apprehension, both suspects were in possession of firearms.
