VBPD Responds to ShotSpotter Alert, Makes Arrest in Reckless Firearm Discharge Incident

On April 23, 2024, at approximately 6:00 AM, officers from the Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) responded to a ShotSpotter Alert in the 400 block of Davis St.

Upon arrival, officers discovered shell casings consistent with the ShotSpotter Alert. Subsequently, the Emergency Communications and Citizen Services was notified of a walk-in gunshot wound at a local hospital, where it was determined an individual had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Subsequent investigation linked the victim, Justin Fuquay, (M/25), of Norfolk to the ShotSpotter alert. It was ultimately determined that Mr. Fuquay accidentally shot himself following the reckless discharge of several rounds outside his vehicle. He was charged with Reckless Handling of a Firearm and Discharging a Firearm Within City Limits.

Note: The charges mentioned in this press release are accusations, and the arrested individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
