VBPD Recognized as National Partner of the Year in LEAD National Conference

The Virginia Beach Police Department has been recognized as National Partner of the Year by the Law Enforcement Against Drugs and Violence (LEAD) organization. It is the first time VBPD has won such a prestigious award as more than 3,000 organizations are partnered with LEAD nationwide.

LEAD is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting K-12 students from the dangers of drug abuse, opioid addiction, bullying, and violent behavior. LEAD operates across 49 states with a network of over 6,000 certified instructors.

Out of thousands of instructors, two of VBPD’s finest were additionally awarded for their outstanding efforts. Lieutenant Kevin Lokey was awarded Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. This achievement recognizes Lokey’s above-and-beyond service to help children remain drug and violence free.

Master Police Officer Cheryl Stoudt was recognized as LEAD Instructor of the Year for Virginia. MPO Stoudt’s exceptional work in delivering the curriculum helped promote prevention education within the Virginia Beach community.

“These awards reflect the tremendous work being done by the Youth Services Unit and School Resource Officers to support youth-focused prevention and intervention initiatives throughout the city,” said Lieutenant Kevin Lokey.

The Virginia Beach Police Department remains the first and only law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth to implement the LEAD curriculum. VBPD is honored to continue this valued partnership with LEAD into the future.
