London Bridge Road Scheduled for Intermittent Closures Sept. 18-21 for Air Show
London Bridge Road between International Parkway and Central Drive will be closed intermittently in both directions Sept. 18-21 to accommodate the Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana Air Show.
During the scheduled road closure times, advanced warning signs and barricades will advise motorists of the closure. Through traffic on London Bridge Road will be detoured via Central Drive and International Parkway.
Because heavy congestion and traffic delays are anticipated, motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes. Drivers not attending the air show are advised to avoid this geographic area due to anticipated dense crowds and extreme traffic congestion. The dates and times for the closure of London Bridge Road are:
- Thursday, Sept. 18, 10:30 a.m.-5 p.m.
- Friday, Sept. 19, 2-5 p.m.
- Saturday, Sept. 20, 1:30-5 p.m.
- Sunday, Sept. 21, 1:30-5 p.m.
Entry paths to the event are suggested below. This year, all spectators over the age of 18 must present a physical photo ID to gain access to the air show.
From Interstate 264, access to Gates 1 and 2 on Saturday, Sept. 20, and Sunday, Sept. 21:
Gate 1 Access
- Use First Colonial Exit 21A (eastbound) or Exit 21 (westbound).
- From First Colonial Road, continue on Oceana Boulevard.
- From Oceana Boulevard., turn right on Tomcat Boulevard to access Gate 1.
Gate 2 Access
- Use Lynnhaven Parkway Exit 19A (eastbound or westbound).
- Take Lynnhaven Parkway to Holland Road, turn left on Holland Road.
- Take Holland Road to Dam Neck Road, turn left at Dam Neck Road.
- Turn left on London Bridge Road, continue on Hornet Drive to access Gate 2.
Drivers also should be aware that starting at 3 p.m. on both Sept. 20 and Sept. 21, there will be increased traffic leaving both Gate 1 on Oceana Boulevard and Gate 2 on London Bridge Road. Drivers should plan alternate routes in these areas to bypass increased delays.
