VBPD Makes Arrest for Illegal Purchase of Firearm
In July 2025, Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) Crime Gun Investigative Squad detectives concluded an investigation into a straw purchase of a firearm originating in Virginia Beach. The investigation began earlier in the year after a firearm recovered during a separate case was traced back to a Virginia Beach firearms dealer. Detectives determined the firearm had been purchased just two days prior to being recovered after being used in a crime.Â
Through investigative efforts, detectives identified Anyssa Wilson (F/23) of Chesapeake, as the original purchaser of the firearm. Further review of transaction documents revealed false information had been provided during the purchase process. As a result, detectives obtained a warrant for Wilson for making a False Statement on a Firearm Transaction Form. On July 5, 2025, Wilson was taken into custody.Â
“This arrest demonstrates our steadfast determination to hold individuals accountable for diverting firearms into the hands of those who would commit crimes with them,” said VBPD Police Chief Paul Neudigate. “Providing false information during a firearms transaction will not be tolerated, and VBPD will continue to aggressively investigate these cases and pursue criminal charges to protect our community.”Â
(Note: The charges mentioned in this press release are accusations, and the arrested individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.)Â
