Oceanfront Arrest Highlights Continued Proactive Enforcement

On July 18, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) officers were patrolling the 2100 block of Atlantic Avenue when they observed a vehicle displaying an improper tag. During the stop, officers noticed several juveniles inside the vehicle with illegally possessed vapes in plain view.  During the subsequent investigation, the front seat passenger was found to be in possession of a firearm.

A 17-year old male from Chesapeake was taken into custody and charged with the following:

• Possession of a firearm by an underage individual
• Carrying a concealed weapon
• Curfew violation

This case reflects a growing concern regarding the rise in concealed weapons found in the possession of juveniles. The VBPD continues to prioritize proactive enforcement efforts and community engagement to address this emerging trend and to ensure the safety of residents and visitors throughout the city.

The incident remains under investigation by the Second Precinct. Anyone with information is asked to contact VBPD at (757) 385-2700 or anonymously through Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP or P3Tips.com.

Note: The charges mentioned in this press release are accusations, and the arrested individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
